The next morning, Hikiki waited with Daikiki, Nozizi, and Eddodo at the Graduation ceremony with great anticipation. As the headmaster gave out a speech to Keron’s newest Invaders, Hikiki could hardly pay attention. She wanted to see Raido again. He would walk up on stage and choose her as a part of his Platoon. The scenario played over and over in her head. She was excited. She worried that she might do something to embarrass herself. Could this be the mortifying day that she tripped and fell on her face that many Keronians spoke of on their Graduation Day? Even her own mother tripped going up on stage. Would she follow in her footsteps?
“Hikiki, the leaders are coming up,” Daikiki said, gently nudging her with his elbow. Hikiki looked up. A line of leaders came up on stage. She only recognized two; Raido and Gamama. She smiled and waved to Raido. He noticed her and waved subtly; his cheeks were pink and his smile was shy. The first leader went up. He cleared his throat nervously; the microphone shrieked and everyone cupped their hands over their ears. Eddodo screamed and fell backwards in his seat. A few graduates laughed. Hikiki snapped them a dirty look and helped him up.
Leader after leader chose Platoon after Platoon. Hikiki would get worried every so often that someone would choose her or one of her friends. At last, three leaders were left; Gamama, Raido, and some nerd. Gamama stepped up to the podium and looked around at the available Platoons. Hikiki rested easy; he hated Raido and his friends. He wouldn’t want them. She noticed Gamama’s eyes shift over at Raido, give a sly smirk, and look at her. She felt her heart stop.
“Hikiki Socho,” he said. Hikiki couldn’t breathe. She felt an anxiety attack rip away at her heart. She must have been hallucinating. She looked at Raido and her friends. They heard it too; all of them gaped slightly, looking stunned. Raido looked more upset by this than anyone. She noticed him mouth, “No…” Gamama stared at her with irritation.
“Hikiki Socho,” he repeated. Hikiki slowly stood up and started to walk towards the stage. Her legs gave out as she started to go up the steps and she fell. Half of the people laughed, half of them gave out an “Oh!” She pretended it never happened and got back up. Her vision was beginning to blacken as she hyperventilated. She stood a few inches away from Gamama.
“Daikiki Gocho,” Gamama called out. Hikiki couldn’t believe this was happening. Daikiki involuntarily stood up and went up on stage. He stood next to Hikiki. He looked down at her arms as she rubbed them from her fall.
“Are you okay…?” he whispered. Hikiki shook her head.
“No…” she whispered back.
“Eddodo Heicho,” Gamama called. Eddodo didn’t get up. If Hikiki had been smart, she wouldn’t have either. Gamama frowned.
“Eddodo Heicho,” he said again. Eddodo frowned.
“Bite Eddodo butt, a-hole,” he snapped. Several people laughed. His professor shot him a strict look.
“Eddodo, if a leader chooses you, you are required to get up,” he said. Eddodo looked up helplessly at Raido. He reluctantly left Nozizi alone and went up beside Daikiki.
“You tried…” Daikiki said quietly. Tears trembled in Eddodo’s eyes. He tried hard to blink them away, but they remained where they were.
Gamama seemed hesitant to call out another name. He kept staring at Nozizi. Nozizi didn’t seem like he knew whether he wanted Gamama to call him or not. Gamama looked at Raido. Raido obviously didn’t want Nozizi to be chosen. Gamama read his face like a book and looked back at Nozizi.
“Nozizi Jotohei,” he said. Quiet tears fell down Nozizi’s cheeks as he stood up and went up next to Eddodo.
“This will be the Gamama Platoon,” Gamama said finally. The headmaster nodded.
“Very well. May you all be protected on your odyssey throughout the universe. De arimasu,” he said. Gamama bowed his head and turned towards the four friends.
“Let’s head out,” he said. Hikiki wanted badly to strike him across the face. She knew she couldn’t. She had several pairs of eyes watching her and in addition, he was her… leader. She looked over Gamama’s shoulder at Raido. Gamama was impatient.
“Let’s go,” he said, forcefully leading her off stage.
“NO! I WON’T LEAVE HIM! RAIDO!” Hikiki screamed, trying to pull away from Gamama and go to Raido. She couldn’t turn around to even take one last look at his face. She never got to say good-bye. She never told him that she loved him.
The story of how they were seperated. It darn near breaks your heart. ...actually... it does. :tears:

The worst has only begun...
